Lucille and Carl Harris

Lucille Harris discovered early on that she could say more through the language of music than the language of words. As a pianist, organist, and teacher of music for 40 years, she has emulated Brahms in the way she has composed her life, “giving every voice something important to do.” In her retirement from Wake Forest University, where she taught for 34 years, she continues to play the piano informally for the residents of Salemtowne, the retirement community where she and Carl live. Listen to hear what ignited her love for music and what has sustained and inspired her work throughout the years.

Lucille’s sun shines brightly on all of us. We were blessed by her influence at Wake Forest, and continue to be touched by her in our lives and in our world.
